AAUW Funds/Legal Advocacy Fund

AAUW FUNDS

Our Chico Branch of AAUW holds a yearly fundraiser in October called the “SOUPER SUPPER”. The purpose of the event is to raise money for our National Educational Fund and the Legal Advocacy Fund. Several members bring homemade soup and we serve rolls and cookies as well. One of our members, Jana Lawton, has very generously donated her handmade ceramic bowls
each year to those who donate at a certain level. All of our members enjoy the gathering and it is always well attended.
Check our calendar for this year’s date and plan to join us.

THE MONEY THAT IS RAISED IS SENT TO AAUW NATIONAL TO BE POOLED WITH DONATIONS FROM ALL OTHER BRANCHES IN THE COUNTRY. RECIPIENTS OF EDUCATIONAL FUNDS RECEIVE FELLOWSHIPS AND GRANTS

IN ADDITION TO EDUCATIONAL FUNDS OUR DONATIONS ALSO HELP FUND THE LEGAL ADVOCACY FUND.

The Legal Advocacy Fund works to challenge sex discrimination in higher education and the workplace. Our resources range from community outreach programs to legal referrals and backing of major cases.
Sex discrimination today takes a variety of forms: unfair pay, pregnancy discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, and violations of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. All can affect both men and women.
LAF addresses these barriers by informing people of their rights and using the legal system to seek justice and change.
