TECH TREK

Tech Trek is a project of the American Association of University, California. Now entering its 18th year, it is an all-scholarship, all volunteer science and math camp program for local girls entering the 8th grade. Our dedicated Tech Trek Committee and many other branch members work hard all year to raise funds to provide the scholarships for the girls and to work with the Jr. High Schools to provide information on the camp so that all interested and qualified girls are able to apply. Choosing only 7 girls from the many applicants is always a difficult task.

Our yearly fundraiser for the Tech Trek program is ANTIQUES APPRAISAL FAIR .

THE HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP TEAM

As one of the founding organizations of the Chico Community Scholarship Association in 1960, Chico Branch AAUW has consistently provided post-secondary scholarship funds to graduates of Chico high schools.

The Chico Branch Scholarship Team was created in 2013 to increase the number of students supported as well as the dollar amounts contributed to them. Toward this goal, the Scholarship Team is involved in the encouragement of monetary donations including memorials and honoraria. Fundraising events are also held. Each year’s contributing members determine the criteria used in the scholarship selection process.

Other Team activities include review of student scholarship applications and the subsequent interview process in late March and April. Applicants provide written and oral information on their academic standing, classes and subjects studied, references, statements of community, home, church and school service. CSU,Chico CREDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

These scholarships are specified for credential students who are planning to become teachers in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) area of education, and who demonstrate a financial need. Two scholarships have been awarded each year.

CAREER TREK

Chico Branch, in conjunction with other Butte County Branches of AAUW, helps sponsor a Career Day at Butte College for 8th grade girls and their parents.
The girls attend 3 presentations, all of which are conducted by professional women in the fields of science, technology and mathematics.

Many of our members work hard to make this event successful. They take applications and information to the Jr. High Schools, help arrange transportation, work on scheduling with Butte College and our professional women presenters, and spend many hours on the day of the event to help guide the girls
and monitor the presentations.
